The Value of Design – BusinessWeek

November 27th, 2011 · CURRENT TOPICS

My colleague Calin – a brand analyst – was, as he said, “wrestling with a presentation on the value of design” and found this article or better this serie of articles – a Special Report from the BusinessWeek, that also links to a lot of interesting further information:

The Value of Design, by Helen Walters
http://www.businessweek.com/innovate/content/feb2010/id2010021_071409.htm

“opinion pieces on the value of design from those within and outside the profession. IDEO partner Diego Rodriguez makes the case that good business arises from a design-centric process that incorporates marketing, research, and ideas. RKS Design’s Ravi Sawhney and Deepa Prahalad outline four specific areas in which design can create value: understanding the consumer; mitigating risk; boosting marketing and branding; and driving sustainable business practices.”

The Sound of Football – PEPSI

November 8th, 2011 · CURRENT TOPICS, DESIGN METHODS

I know, some will say: What does PEPSI the soft drink comany has incomen with design research? Or what has marketing to do in scientific project work? And does the company (mis)use a design research project for branding? – But you know, I do not care about vanity or reservations this time and will focus on the project, and that is a very unique approach in many ways.

“Åkestam Holst and Society 46 created “The Sound of Football” to give visually impaired people a better football experience and maybe, in the future, create new aides that enable you to “see” with sound.”

Design & Thinking; Documentary Trailer

August 23rd, 2011 · CURRENT TOPICS, DESIGN METHODS

found a promising trailer of a documentary, exploring the idea of “design & thinking“.

Website: http://www.designthinkingmovie.com/
Trailer: http://vimeo.com/27058468

“The film, by One Time Studio in San Francisco, will feature interviews with a smattering of design minds. Among them: laptop inventor and IDEO cofounder Bill Moggridge; Smart Design cofounder Dan Formosa; and AIGA CEO Richard Grefe. The point here is to explore “the impact design thinking has on the world.”
(quoted from: fastcodesign.com)

I am really looking forward to see the movie.
